St. John’s forward and co-captain Zuby Ejiofor was named the 2024-25 Big East Most Improved Player of the Year on Monday, as the silverware keeps rolling in for the Queens school.

The Kansas transfer more than tripled his scoring average and doubled his rebounding average from a year ago, posting 14.1 points on a team-high 57.3% shooting and 8.2 boards per game this season. He averaged 4.3 points and 3.1 rebounds last year.

He is the second St. John’s player to win Most Improved honors in three years, joining Joel Soriano in 2022-23. Dwight Hardy (2011), Sir-Dominic Pointer (2015), and Julian Champagnie (2021) also won the award with St. John’s.

Joining teammate RJ Luis as a Big East first-team member this season, Ejiofor ranks No. 1 in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (4.3) and ranks third in the Big East in rebounds per game.

Earlier this season, he held the country’s longest streak of games with seven or more rebounds with 18 straight between Nov. 17 and Feb. 1.

Ejiofor helped put the finishing touches on a historic season for the Johnnies, hitting a game-winning floater at the buzzer on Saturday to defeat No. 20 Marquette 86-84 in overtime.

It was the 27th regular-season win this season, which ties a program record. The Red Storm went 27-4 overall and 18-2 in Big East play to win their first regular-season conference title in 40 years.

They are the No. 1 seed at the Big East Tournament, which begins on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.
