If the Mets or Yankees cannot capture some October magic, New York’s championship drought will extend to 13 years with the hopes of a slump-busting title landing on the shoulders of the Jets and Giants.
The Jets are in a far better position to compete for a championship, though they are still not believed to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders, but they do land in the top 10 of the oddsmakers’ list of Super LIX favorites. By Jets standards, though, competing for a playoff spot will make it one of the more memorable campaigns in the last two decades.
Across the hall at MetLife Stadium is a Giants team that is still rebuilding, though the hope is that they take a step forward in terms of contending for the playoffs on a perennial basis. Granted, that time is not here yet, especially when it comes to competing for a Super Bowl. They have the third-worst odds to win it all come February.
As the season kicks off on Thursday night, it is the Kansas City Chiefs who are favored to three-peat as Super Bowl champions and with it, win a fourth title in the last six years.
The NFC Champions they defeated last year, the San Francisco 49ers, are not far behind, though.
