Torri Huske, a two-time Olympian won silver in the women’s 100m freestyle at the 2024 Summer Olympics Wednesday. At 21 years of age, she earns her fourth-ever Olympic medal. This is her first time medaling in the 100m freestyle event.

The two-lap sprint leaves no room for error. For the first half of the second lap, Huske led before she was taken over by Sweden’s Sarah Sjoestroem for gold by a mere seven-one-thousands of a second.

Huske has been proving herself as a commander of the water. She is often a freestyle relay specialist where she has won a total of eight medals across world championships and the Olympics over the past four years.

Not only is she a relay aficionado, but she is a butterfly specialist as well. In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Huske was left heartbroken after missing out on the bronze medal by a split of a split of a second. At the age of 17, she came in fourth in the 100m butterfly and missed the podium by one-hundredth of a second.

Huske is on a tear in the Paris games. She has won three of her four Olympic medals this year with a gold in the 100m Butterfly, a silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay, and the most recent silver in the 100m Freestyle.

Gretchen Walsh of the USA also competed in the 100m freestyle by way of an exemption from another American. Walsh finished in last place in the final after leading most of the first lap.
