The New York Red Bulls have agreed to a new contract with Venezuelan midfielder Wiki Carmona, inking him to a three-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him at the club through the 2027 season with an option for 2028.
“I am very happy to sign Wiki to a new contract with the club and to keep him with us for the future,” head coach Sandro Schwarz said. “He has shown to be a reliable player for our club this season and has progressed really well since the beginning of the season.”
In 23 MLS appearances this season, the 21-year-old has three goals — including his side’s opener in a 2-2 draw last week with CF Montreal — with three assists. Over his first four seasons with the Red Bulls, he scored three goals with one assist in 44 appearances.
His role in New York’s midfield has become increasingly invaluable in recent weeks after the club sold Frankie Amaya to Liga MX side Toluca and Emil Forsberg was sidelined with a lower leg injury that is expected to keep him sidelined until at least the first half of August.
Carmona has become a player to watch within the Venezuelan national system. He has been a regular for the country’s youth national teams, including a call-up to the Venezuela U-23 Olympic qualifying team in October of 2023. He also earned his first call-up to the senior Venezuela squad for a training camp in January of 2022.
