Activity and coloring books aren’t just for kids anymore.
Introducing the What Is New York? An Adult Activity Book, the ultimate book for adults looking to unwind and create with New York City-themed activities. The book was created by David Regone, who has worked with the What Is New York? and Subway Creatures Instagram accounts previously on other art projects.
“We started doing an annual illustration, kind of like a year in review. We’ve done that for two years in a row and then this year I wanted to try to do something a little different, like a fun interactive version of that for people,” said Regone. “It’s for anyone the page or just really knows anything about New York because it’s loaded with gems.”
The What Is New York? activity book contains several pages of things to do that speak to the New Yorker at heart. There are coloring pages, mazes, trivia and so much more to discover. Plus, after you finish your creations, there are QR codes throughout the book where you can share some of your designs with the What Is New York? Instagram account.
“I love mazes and puzzles and trivia games. I love adult activity books, things that are a little more tricky and more fun and have more adult themes. I wanted to try to combine all those things together for people,” said Regone. “We wanted people to really embrace this and use it as a way to interact with the page and to be a part of the platform. This is a fun way for people to actually say, hey, look, I did this thing.”
One of Regone’s favorite pages is the New York City Bingo Card, where you can cross out any quintessential New York City things that have happened to you during your daily commute.
“It’s one of those things that even if people don’t like actually take this seriously and go out and cross all these things off, this is really fun to know that people are in your shoes and can relate to all the trauma and excitement that New Yorkers experience,” said Regone.
Regone hopes that those who pick up the book are able to have fun with it and are able to find community with their fellow New Yorkers.
“I hope it brings a smile to people’s faces and lets them know that we’re all in it together and these things are, are what made New York, New York,” said Regone.
